On Sunday December 4th, Summit held its annual Christmas Celebration. It was a magical night for the kids as well as the adults. Detective Mike Freeman of Summit Police was invited to speak to the children about Safety, the kids were very attentive and had a lot of questions for Detective Mike! Afterwards, Lois Pagano, NJ State Chairperson of Elks National Foundation presented him with a Grant of $2,000 to the PBA for protective vests, to help protect those who protect us! The Attorney General recently declared next week (September 19 - 23, 2016) as National Heroin and Opioid Awareness Week. DOJ leadership will be doing a number of events to draw attention to both the Department's efforts to tackle this epidemic, and the need for the public to be involved with law enforcement, prevention, and treatment.
Applications for ENF Scholarships open September 1st: Most Valuable Student - open to all High School Seniors, Legacy - open to members children and grandchildren and Emergency Educational Grants - open to all children of deceased or disabled Elks (deadline for this one is October 31st). On July 29th, volunteers from Summit Lodge went to Menlo Park VA for the annual East Central District Vets Barbeque/Picnic. The veterans always welcome the Elks with open arms and we do the same! The Elks are committed to their mission .. "So long as there are Veterans, the Elks will never forget them!"
On Saturday August 14th, volunteers from Summit Lodge went up to Camp Moore for the East Central District's annual Picnic, where all have a chance to tour the camp, speak to the staff and enjoy watching the smiles on the kids faces. If you have not yet been up to the Camp, please go just once; you will come back with joy in your hearts! This Camp is owned by the State of New Jersey Elks Association and is it's pride and joy! On August 17th, Summit Lodge welcomed 15 new members, bringing our total membership to 1601!

How drug manufacturers "persuaded" Congress to pass a law reducing the restrictions on the drug manufacturers to track large scale sales of Oxycontin. Of course the Congressman sponsoring the bill received large contributions from the drug manufacturers.
